Within its own drainage basin of 128 acres, the lake covers 61 acres of the park. Though the lake’s deepest point is 24 feet, most of the water is no deeper than 10 feet. Its shoreline totals 2 miles. Water enters the lake only through rainfall, surface runoff, or groundwater seepage since there is no surface inlet.

During the dry season, municipal well water can be pumped into the lake; if not, the lake level might drop by up to 30 inches in late summer. Towards the west end of the lake, just north of it, there are three ponds connected by culverts to one another and to the lake itself.

In a separate drainage basin to the east, workers release the water from the lake and ponds through a concrete weir into Salmon Creek. After flowing through Salmon Creek, the water enters the Columbia River.
